Sean Weaver Shares Tutor Manifesto

Posted on

One of our new GA’s, Sean Weaver, wrote this manifesto to encapsulate the tutor/student experience:

“A tutor is not AN EDITOR.  A tutor is both an “I” and a “we.”  A tutor is a writer/teacher/student/mentor etc….. A tutor is NOT an academic snob. A tutor is a helper, a motivater: both intrinsically and extrinsically.  Grammar, is sometimes the enemy, and a tutor must be cognizant of this concept. A tutor uses all the resources at his command–in fact I plan to have copies of sections of Elements of Style by EB White with me at all times. A tutor listens, is perceptive, and helpful in a way that is not harmful to the client/writer. A tutor is a hybrid, and as such has dual responsibilities.”
